Totally an unplanned trip when I discovered there was a bird sanctuary close to where we were staying in Srirangapatnam (Mysore, Karnataka). Usually, I'm skeptical of places that don't have a decent website. But India can surprise you every time! And may times pleasantly!
Ranganthittu Bird Sanctuary covering roughly 40 acres in Srirangapatnam is the largest bird sanctuary in the state of Karnataka comprising of six islets on the banks of the river Kaveri. I was instantly hooked as I hopped on to the chartered row boat that promised a 30 minute ride around the islets. The sanctuary is home to more than 150 species. My first thought was "30 minutes is not going to be enough!!". It's very well maintained, clean, has a lovely garden - wonderful place to spend a day.
